The aim of this blog is to be aware of how we can assess our students without using the traditional way in which exams are the base of the assessment. It is clear after creating this blog that every part of the learning process can be assessed separetly and together at the same time.
The components of assessment as Hönig points out are:
- student's participation in class
- oral exams
- written exams.
These three components must be realted to objectivity, reliability and vadility.
Objectivity refers to the recquirements that different teachers should come to the same judgement of a student's achivement; reliability indicates the consistency of judgement across teachers and over time; and vadility relates to extent to which a test measure what is intended to measure. (Hönig, 2010). For this author one of the more reliable ways of assessment is a portfolio but this entails a good plan from the teacher's side.
This unit plan is organised to foster the use of the porfolio, so the students can keep every task in them and the assessment they need to carry out after each one. Looking at their portfolios any one is able to see their learning process.
